Any one of several species of Old World warblers, esp. the
common European species ({Sylvia cinerea), called also
strawsmear, nettlebird, muff, and whitecap, the
garden whitethroat, or golden warbler ({Sylvia
hortensis), and the lesser whitethroat ({Sylvia curruca}).
