peeke.] [Prob. of North American Indian origin, by
shortening of wampumpeag. --RHUD.]
A kind of aboriginal shell money, or wampum, of the Atlantic
coast of the United States; -- originally applied only to
polished white cylindrical beads. See also wampum.
