     alcyon, Gr. "alkyw`n, 'alkyw`n: cf. F. halcyon.] (Zool.)
     A kingfisher. By modern ornithologists restricted to a genus
     including a limited number of species having omnivorous
     habits, as the sacred kingfisher ({Halcyon sancta) of
     Australia.
