     brer, AS. br[=e]r, br[ae]r; cf. Ir. briar prickle, thorn,
     brier, pin, Gael. preas bush, brier, W. prys, prysg.]
     1. A plant with a slender woody stem bearing stout prickles;
        especially, species of Rosa, Rubus, and Smilax.
