     origin; cf. OHG. scirmen to protect, defend, G. schirmen,
     OHG. scirm, scerm, protection, shield, G. schirm; perhaps
     akin to Gr. ???? a sunshade. Cf. Scaramouch, Scrimmage.]
     To fight slightly or in small parties; to engage in a
     skirmish or skirmishes; to act as skirmishers.
