  Pastoral \Pas"tor*al\, a. [L. pastoralis: cf. F. pastoral. See
     Pastor.]
     1. Of or pertaining to shepherds; hence, relating to rural
        life and scenes; as, a pastoral life.

     Pastoral staff (Eccl.), a staff, usually of the form of a
