  Granary \Gran"a*ry\, n.; pl. Granaries. [L. granarium, fr.
     granum grain. See Garner.]
     1. A storehouse or repository for grain, esp. after it is
        thrashed or husked; a cornhouse.

     2. Hence: (Fig.), A region fertile in grain; in this sense,
        equivalent to breadbasket, used figuratively; as,
        Ukraine, the granary of the Soviet Union.
