     ([e^]ks*p[u^]n"j[i^]ng).] [L. expungere, expunctum, prick
     out, expunge, settle an account, execute; ex out + pungere to
     prick, puncture. See Pungent.]

        designedly; to obliterate; to strike out wholly; as, to
        expunge words, lines, or sentences.
